Democracy as the organization of political life requires some level of maturity from the people.

Maybe it is precisely the reason explaining why some countries have a long story of democratic traditions while others still discuss whether they need democracy or “strong hand” of the autocratic leader. Moreover, maybe this is specifically the reason some countries tend to fall into the chaos should the authoritarian leader leave due to whatever reason. Examples of such countries in Europe are Russia and Ukraine.

Now let us do the extrapolation from the politics to the business. Let us look at Human Resources Management as one of the core business disciplines. We adopt more and more Western practices and trying to build Western type relations and communications in the companies here in CIS region. However, what if people are just not ready? What if one size does not fit all? I have an extensive list of observations confirming this point of view.

Maybe instead of trying to put on this shirt, we need to create ours taking into the account the maturity and readiness of the local workforce.
